Now based in Cambridge Ontario, Dana returned to North America after living and working in Ghana. She served as Communications Officer for a Ghanaian-based non-profit, Challenging Heights, and then got into freelance video work. She created videos to promote non-profits and startups, as well as reported, shot and edited journalism pieces for the Global Sisters Report and Deutsche Welle. In Canada, she continues freelance journalism and spent a few years as a Communications Specialist with the City of London (Ontario).
Before delving into the non-profit communications world, Dana spent nearly seven years as a reporter/anchor for local TV stations in the U.S.
Dana had her work as a one-man-band reporter/photographer nominated for a Southeast Regional Emmy in June of 2012, in the "Craft Category: Video Journalist." In May 2010, she received a Golden Press Club Competition award from the East Tennessee Society of Professional Journalists, for a collaborative investigation with her news partner, the Bristol Herald Courier. She also made a trip to Nashville to accept a 2010 Tennessee Associated Press Award for "Best Breaking News Reporting." In August 2009, Dana received a MegaAwards, Best News Story – Community Division, “For outstanding journalism at Media General Newspapers.”
Dana joined Fox Carolina in October 2010 as a "multi-media journalist." In July of 2013, she was promoted to full-time weekend anchor and reporter. As a multi-media journalist, Dana does it all: reporter, photographer, editor, and online journalist. Dana was based in Greenville, S.C., but covered the entire Upstate of South Carolina, Western North Carolina, and part of Northern Georgia. Before landing in SC, Dana reported as a "digital journalist" at WJHL-TV, based in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. In college, she reported and anchored for Capital News Service on UMTV. She interned with ABC World News in Washington, D.C., WTTG Fox 5 in D.C., and CNN Productions in Atlanta.
Dana serves on the advisory board for the Banting House Historic Site in Canada, creating videos and social media content for the museum honoring a Canadian hero. She has been a long-time volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters, mentoring young women in middle school for nearly 10 years. Delivering Meals on Wheels to home-bound elderly and disabled adults regularly, Dana also served on the board for Greenville's Rotaract, a young professionals' branch of Rotary, and worked with high school leaders as the adviser to the BBYO, Inc. chapter in Greenville.
Raised in Marietta, Georgia, she graduated from the University of Maryland-College Park. There, Dana studied Broadcast Journalism and Sociology. Along with volunteering, she's always up for an adventure, exploring nearby towns, checking out local festivals, breweries and live music events. With a passion for good eats, Dana can turn whatever's left in your fridge into a pretty awesome meal or snack.
